DESCRIPTION:Delighted to be the guest speaker at the Kearsarge Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship on November 5\, 2017\, at 11:00 AM. The service is at the beautiful Stone Chapel on Rte 11/4 in Andover\, NH. All are welcome. My topic is: “Report from the Western Front: Flanders and Northern France\, 2017” \nA hundred years ago\, during World War I\, vast areas of Belgium and Northern France were a devastated war zone of trenches\, barbed wire\, seas of mud\, bare snags of trees\, and piles of shattered and decaying dead bodies. Today\, tourists roam through immaculate cemeteries\, gaze up at towering monuments\, and visit state-of-the-art museums. All seems peaceful. But the grown-back grass can’t conceal the concave shapes of the shell holes\, and swaths of forest are still not safe to walk in. What message do we get from this landscape?
